We will conduct the full SSI Instructor Evaluation, including all of the following:
- Orientation
- Final Exam
- Academic Presentation
- Confined Water Presentation
- Skills Demonstration
- Rescue Assessment
- Open Water Presentation
- Education System Evaluation
- Professionalism Evaluation
Prerequisites:
- Completed SSI Instructor Training Course
- WRSTC Medical Statement Signed by Physician Within 1 Year
- CPR, First Aid, AED, and Oxygen within 2 Years
Details:
- Includes tank and weight rental
- If you need any other dive gear rental, please add the "Class Gear Rental Package" to your purchase or contact us at (619) 366 - 6266 to set up individual rentals. We strongly recommend you bring your own dive gear so that you are in gear that you are comfortable wtih for the evaluation. There is not time built in to "dial in" rental gear.
- The IE will take place at multiple locations and you will need reliable transportation throughout. We recommend renting a gear, but we have had candidates use rideshare before
- We will exit the water from our dive on Sunday no later than 12pm
How Should I Prepare?
- Review your ITC materials. The IE is not intended to introduce anything new. We are just doing an outside confirmation of the skills your Instructor Trainer already developed with you
- Review your criteria for Academic and In-Water training
- Review the student materials for all the courses you can teach as an Open Water Instructor
Frequently Asked Questions
When will I receive my assignments?
You will receive your assignments for the weekend at the start of our first session.
How long is the final exam?
90 minutes
What happens if I fail a presentation or the final exam?
For the academic, rescue, and confined water presentations, you will be assigned a make up presentation and given a chance to present during the same weekend. In the unlikely event that you fail the open water presentation, you will have to repeat the instructor evaluation at a later date. If you fail the final exam, you will get a second chance during the weekend to take the other version.
How long will I have to prepare?
You will have at least 60 minutes to prepare your academic presentations after the final exam. You will have at least 90 minutes for lunch and preparing your pool presentations.
What skills will I demo for the Open Water Skills Demonstration?
You will be assigned skills in the water and asked to demonstrate them immediately. You should be comfortable demonstrating all of the skills from the Open Water course.
