How Do We Make Exceptional Divemasters?

Training Philosophy
Our training philosophy to training Divemasters is that we train them as if they would be working alongside us. We take pride in producing the best dive professionals anywhere. We mentor our divemaster candidates to ensure that they understand not just the decisions we make, but the experience, knowledge, and logic we used to make the decision. Our Divemasters leave the program ready to take on the incredible responsibility and fun of being a dive professional.

Timeline
The Divemaster program is different than most of our other classes. The course is built around your schedule, so some divemaster candidates will finish the course very quickly, while others will take their time, accommodating their lives outside of the water.

One-on-One
We only teach Divemaster courses as private training. You will be paired with a mentor instructor and develop a plan for your divemaster program. We have found that this approach allows us the flexibility to ensure that each candidate is trained to ensure her or his success, instead of trying to fit the candidates to a large group schedule.

Knowledge Development
As part of your Divemaster program, you will take the Science of Diving course to ensure that you are comfortable with the physics and physiology of diving.  You will build your knowledge of dive guiding principles and theories through independent study of your digital student materials. Then you will participate in a series of classroom sessions to review these ideas and discuss how to utilize these tools effectively.

Skill Development
You will participate in workshops to improve your core dive skills, rescue skills, and group control skills. You will move your skills from basic diver level skills to professional level skills that are demonstration quality, so you can effectively work with new divers.

Guiding Practice
You will lead several simulated guided dives in order to learn how to properly plan for a dive, brief divers, control the group, and highlight exciting marine life and notable points of interests.

Class Audits
You will audit both Open Water classes in the pool and the ocean so you can see how certified Divemasters work with new divers. You will also work with continuing education divers to learn how to maximize student-diver independence, while ensuring safety.
