Two Dives for 3 Divers - La Jolla Shores

La Jolla Shores is one of the most frequented dive site in California. Sitting just offshore is the La Jolla Underwater Canyon. "The Canyon" as it is known to local divers is home to all types of local marine life including octopus, horn sharks, eels, lobster, and much more! The Canyon is a great site for new divers and experienced ones allowing dives to a variety of depths due to its multi-tiered wall. The Canyon also frequently plays host to transiting marine life such as dolphins and occasionally gray whales!

All our guided dives are private dives, which means that your group will be led by one of our experienced dive guides with no other divers. That means the dives are based on your dive goals, air consumption, and experience level. Your guide will discuss the site with you and then create a custom dive plan to fit your goals!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why dive with us?

Our experienced and knowledgeable professional dive team will allow you to relax and enjoy the marine life during your dive. Many of our dive sites are filled with incredible life, but a diver unfamiliar with the site could miss all of that and spend a lot of time looking at sand. With one of our guides, you will get the most out of your San Diego dives!

All of our dives are private, which means that you will have a Divemaster with just your group of divers. By conducting dives this way, we are able to customize the dive profile to fit your goals and comfort. We pride ourselves on our dive professionals and look forward to diving with you!

How do you hire your Divemasters?

We are fortunate to run an extensive and rigorous dive professional training program, so most of our dive professionals are trained right here! Divemasters who apply from outside are programs are required to complete testing on dive standards, knowledge, and conduct a simulated guided dive. We are very selective and only hire Divemasters with exceptional dive knowledge, skills, and judgment.

How long is the day?

A single dive will meet at 7am and be wrapped up by 10am. A two tank trip will go from 7am to 12pm.

Are the dives from shore or boat?

These dives are from shore. If you would like to find out about boat diving opportunities, please call us at (619) 366 - 6266 or email us at tours@beyondlandadventures.com

How long are the dives?

The length of the dives will mostly depend on your gas consumption and comfort. In general, our dives range from 30 minutes to an hour. Since we only dive with one group, your dive times are based on you!

When is the best time of year to dive in San Diego?

San Diego has great diving year round! We do not have a fixed diving season. Our dive conditions vary day-to-day based on ocean conditions, but do not vary drastically from one season to another.

Do I need to be certified to dive?

Yes! We do not have ocean dives here in San Diego for non certified divers due to safety considerations.

Are the dives beginner friendly?

Yes! Both La Jolla Shores and La Jolla Cove are beginner friendly dives. La Jolla Shores is where we train our Open Water students and is a great site for divers getting more comfortable in the water.

How many people are on your dives?

Our dives are limited to your group! So if there are two people in your dive group, that’s it! If you book a dive by yourself, then it’s just the Divemaster and you! We have a maximum group size of four divers. If you have more than four divers, reach out to us at (619) 366 - 6266 or at tours@beyondlandadventures.com and we can create dives for you with multiple Divemasters to make sure we keep within our ratios.

Do you offer hotel pick up?

Unfortunately, due to insurance considerations, we do not offer pick ups or drop offs.

What is the best way to get around San Diego?

A car is definitely the best option in San Diego. While our beautiful city is working on improving its public transportation options, they are fairly limited outside of the downtown area. Rideshare services, such as Uber and Lyft, are also popular and widely available.

How is parking at the dive site?

There is free, public, street parking available at both sites. During the summer months, we recommend coming a bit earlier just to ensure you can get parking close to the dive site.

How many dives should I do?

That all depends on you! Both sites are big enough that we can explore different sections over two dives. We generally recommend one or two dives depending on your schedule.

Where should I stay?

That is a tough question! San Diego has many amazing hotels and vacation rentals across its varied neighborhoods. If you’re here primarily to dive, staying in La Jolla, Point Loma, or Mission Bay are the easiest from an access perspective. One of the great things about San Diego is that we have a lot of highways so most of the city can be transited in 15 to 20 minutes!

Do you have rental gear available?

Absolutely! Your dives will include tanks and weights. We have all other standard gear rental available. To add gear rental to your dives, please select “Rental Gear” in the add-ons section when you are checking out.

What rental gear do you use?

We use a combination of high quality Mares, Aqua Lung, and SCUBAPRO dive gear to ensure our divers are comfortable and ready to dive. The rental gear package includes a mask, snorkel, fins, gloves, boots, a 7mm wetsuit, dive hood, BCD, Regulator, Dive Computer, Tank, and Weights.

When and where do I pick up my rental gear?

You will come into our store the day before* your dives, conveniently located in the center of San Diego, where the two largest highways meet, so that you can try on your rental gear and make sure everything fits comfortably. You will leave with the gear and meet your guide the next day at the dive site. Your guide will be waiting for you at the site to help you get set up and then lead you out to the dives. Please bring a towel with you and anything you like to wear underneath your wetsuit. If you cannot make it to the dive shop or you cannot transport the gear, please select the “Gear Transport” options when checking out.
